GIMBHI‘s Q&A with BetterYou’s Founder, Sean Higgins

Sean is the CEO and founder of BetterYou, an AI-powered digital coaching platform that helps users optimize their time management and prioritize meaningful activities. Prior to BetterYou, he served as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Techstars, where he collaborated with Target to identify and develop emerging retail technology ventures. He previously founded ilos, a cloud-based video sharing platform, which he grew to exceed $1 million in annual recurring subscription revenue. Sean holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Finance from the University of St. Thomas.

Why did you start BetterYou?

I'm patient zero for the work we do at BetterYou. I would get to the end of my week and I wouldn't have done something important (like visit my parents). I'd say that I was too busy to call but my screentime report would tell me that I spent 4 hours on YouTube. The idea that we spend our time unintentionally more often than we realize was a huge driving factor in building a product that optimizes people's time for their health.

What does BetterYou do? What differentiates you?

BetterYou measures how you spend your time towards your health. You can set goals around going to the gym, listening to an audiobook each month, calling your friends, or getting enough sleep. Once you set up your goals BetterYou works in the background to measure your progress automatically. That's our big differentiator. Today most apps work like the old health journal, they ask you questions and you write down your progress. BetterYou is like the old health journal learned how to write itself. If I call my parents BetterYou checks the box. If I go to the gym, BetterYou checks the box.

Where do you see BetterYou in 5 years?

15 Million active members. BetterYou is helping people today. Stanford found that having our phone in your pocket for 2.5 months led to better sleep (+32 minutes) and better physical activity. Since then our goal is to reach as many people as possible.
